Prof. Dr. med. dent. Claus-Peter Ernst Oberarzt
Universitätsmedizin, Johannes Gutenberg-University (Mainz, Germany)

Dr. Ernst’s research focus is on adhesive and aesthetic dentistry, composite, dentin, light-curing; prophylaxis and oral hygiene aids. Dr. Ernst has published extensively including an analysis of curing lights in dental practice in Germany (Feldtest zur Lichtemissionsleistung von Polymerisationsgeräten in zahnärztlichen Praxen, Deutsche Zahnärztliche Zeitschrift 61 (2006) 9, pg 466-471.). This was the first large scale study of dental curing lights in private practice conducted with scientific equipment. Dr. Ernst found that a large percentage of dentists use curing lights that deliver too little energy to properly cure the dental materials they are using, with as many as 7% of those tested using lights that deliver little or no energy.

Dr. Jack L. Ferracane
Professor and Chair of Restorative Dentistry, and Division Director of Biomaterials and Biomechanics
Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry (Portland, OR, USA)

Dr. Ferracane is a past-President of the Dental Materials Group of the IADR and the Academy of Dental Materials. He has published and lectured extensively on dental composites and light curing. His current research interests are in studying factors that lead to secondary caries around dental composite restorations, and ways to predict clinical performance of materials through in vitro testing. Dr. Ferracane is also actively involved in the establishment of networks designed to conduct clinical research in the private dental practice setting.

Dr. Will Palin
Reader in Biomaterials
School of Dentistry – University of Birmingham (Birmingham, England)

Dr. Palin is a Fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials and has published extensively in the field. His main research interests include studying the complex chemistry of light curing reactions and development of novel biomaterials and related technologies including light-activated resin-based materials for dentistry and wider biomaterial applications, light source and fibre optic light delivery design. Dr Palin’s related research is underpinned by the importance of accurate light measurement and he has recently attracted significant research funding to develop techniques and novel devices for the treatment of dental-related disease using low level light therapy.

Dr. Frederick Rueggeberg
Professor and Section Director, Dental Materials, Department of Oral Rehabilitation, College of Dental Medicine
Georgia Health Sciences University (Augusta, GA, USA)

Dr. Rueggeberg has been an author on almost 200 papers in the field of dentistry. Dr. Rueggeberg’s research interests include the photochemistry of light-activated dental restorative materials, determining spectral irradiance of light-curing units, absorption profiles of photoactivators, monomer conversion of resulting polymers, and their various physical and optical properties.

Dr. Howard Strassler
Professor and Director of Operative Dentistry
University of Maryland School of Dentistry (Baltimore, MD, USA)

Dr. Strassler has presented over 450 continuing education programs both nationally and internationally, focusing on many subjects; particularly the selection and use of dental materials in clinical use and esthetic restorative dentistry. Dr. Strassler has been involved throughout his career in biomaterials research and incorporates evidence based research in his educational and CE activities. For twelve years in a row Dr. Strassler was honored as being one of the top CE (Continuing Education) presenters by Dentistry Today. Dr. Strassler is a reviewer for many journals and his focus over his 30 years in dental education has been innovative teaching using technology.

Prof. Dr. David Watts
Professor of Biomaterials Science, Head of Research Group: Adhesive Biomaterials & Biomechanics
School of Dentistry – University of Manchester (Manchester, England).

Professor Watts is a physicist and active pioneer in photo-cured dental composites with over 300 original research publications. Dr. Watts publications are often cited and have a high impact on the scientific community (citations > 4000; H-factor 32). He has personally supervised more than 55 PhD candidates and has received scientific research prizes from the IADR (International Association for Dental Research), the Humboldt Foundation (Germany) and the UK Society of Biomaterials. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of Dental Materials (Elsevier) since 1998.
