Legal / CheckMARC app
CheckMARC app privacy notice.
Effective January 1, 2026. Published September 17, 2026.
This notice explains how the CheckMARC mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android handles personal information. Our website has its own privacy policy at https://www.bluelightanalytics.com/privacy/.
01Who we are
Bluelight Analytics Inc. (“Bluelight”, “we”, “us”) is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We make CheckMARC, a system for testing dental curing lights.
We provide CheckMARC to dental manufacturers and their distributors (our customers). Their representatives use the app to test curing lights in dental practices. The information collected through the app is held by Bluelight and made available to the customer the representative works for, under our agreement with that customer.
02What the app collects
Account information. Your name, email address, organization and preferred language. Accounts are set up by Bluelight for our customers; you can’t create one in the app.
Test information. The measurements from each test, the light tested (model, mode, tip and Bluelight sticker ID), the date and time, any notes you add, the Curing Advisor result, and the CheckMARC unit’s serial number and battery level.
Clinic information you enter. Practice names and addresses, and contact names, phone numbers and email addresses. If you scan a business card, the card is read on your phone; the image isn’t sent to Bluelight.
Photos. Photos you take of a curing light and its sticker are uploaded, used to suggest the light’s model, and kept with that light’s record. When you photograph a material’s label, the label is read on your phone and only the text is used to search for the material; the image isn’t sent to Bluelight.
Location. If you allow it, the app uses your approximate location only while you search for a clinic, so nearby results appear first. Bluelight doesn’t store your location.
Usage and diagnostics. The screens and actions you use, errors the app encounters, the app version, and your device’s model and operating system version. This is linked to your account.
Support conversations. Messages you send to our support team from the app.
Bluetooth. The app uses Bluetooth only to connect to a CheckMARC unit.
03How we use it
To run the app and your organization’s CheckMARC program; to calculate and store test results, curing times and Curing Advisor results; to provide support; to find and fix problems and improve the app; to administer accounts; and to meet legal obligations.
We don’t sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
04Who we share it with
- The customer you work for, as part of their CheckMARC program.
- Service providers that process information for us: Amazon Web Services (hosting and storage), Intercom (in-app support), Mixpanel (usage analytics) and Google (place search when you look up a clinic).
- Others when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of Bluelight, our customers or others.
05How long we keep it
Account information is kept while your account is active. Test, light and clinic records are kept for the customer’s CheckMARC program, and we also use test data in aggregated form, which no longer identifies anyone. We delete records when the customer they belong to asks us to. Usage and diagnostic data and support conversations are kept for as long as we need them to run and improve CheckMARC and to support the people who use it.
06Security
Information is encrypted in transit between the app and our services, and access is limited to the people who need it to provide CheckMARC.
07Your choices and rights
You can turn off the app’s access to location, camera and Bluetooth in your phone’s settings; the related features then stop working. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as PIPEDA (Canada), the GDPR (EU and UK) or the CCPA/CPRA (California), including the right to access, correct or delete your personal information. To make a request, email info@bluelightanalytics.com.
08Deleting your data
How to ask. Email info@bluelightanalytics.com with the subject “Delete my CheckMARC data”. Write from the email address on your CheckMARC account, and include your name and organization. We may ask you to confirm your identity. The organization you work for can also ask us to delete an account, and usually does, because the records belong to its CheckMARC program.
What we delete. Your account and the personal information in it (name, email address and sign-in), your support conversations, and the usage and diagnostic records linked to you.
What we keep. Test results and the light and clinic records stay with the CheckMARC program of the organization you work for, attributed to that organization rather than to you. We delete those records when that organization asks us to. We also use test data in aggregated form, which no longer identifies anyone.
Timing. We complete requests within 30 days. Copies may remain in our backups for a short time afterwards.
Practice staff whose contact details were entered in CheckMARC can ask us to delete them the same way.
09Children
CheckMARC is a professional tool and isn’t intended for children.
