Meet MARC, the patient that's changing the way you cure
Dental schools train students to place a restoration in elaborate detail, but rarely measure whether the light actually cured it. MARC-PS is the patient simulator that makes curing technique something you can see, score, and improve.
Simulators play an essential role in optimizing the outcome of dental procedures. What makes MARC different is its ability to give students and clinicians hands-on learning that optimizes the delivery of light energy to a restoration. MARC, short for Managing Accurate Resin Curing, uses real-time analytical feedback on performance and technique to help light operators develop the skills to use a tool that affects more than half of all dental procedures.
Built in our Bluelight lab in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the MARC Patient Simulator has spent more than a decade helping dentists, dental assistants, and students understand how much their light-curing technique matters, and how to make it better.
Most restorative protocols describe how to place a composite in elaborate detail, and say almost nothing about whether the light actually cured it.
MARC is well established in light-curing research
The MARC Patient Simulator is a fixture of the light-curing literature. To date, more than 200 peer-reviewed publications have used the simulator, and it can be found at 50+ institutions, roughly a quarter of top dental schools, training students, assistants, and dentists, as well as DSO clinical teams.

The anatomy of MARC
MARC's hardware and software components include:
- A mannequin head with bench mount and an adjustable opening that simulates the oral cavity.
- A Windows PC preloaded with easy-to-use software.
- Anterior and posterior restoration optical sensors.
- A spectrometer that measures curing-light wavelengths and irradiance while delivering real-time performance metrics.
Bring MARC to your program
If your dental school or research lab wants to add a measurable light-curing competency, MARC-PS is how programs do it, turning curing technique into something every student practices, sees scored, and improves over time. See light-curing education for schools or explore MARC-PS to learn how it fits your curriculum. Each MARC is custom built to order.
